1 STUDYING ABROAD

In order to graduate from EDC, all students must spend six months abroad, either doing an internship or on an academic exchange. Concerning academic exchanges, EDC has developed a large partnership network with internationally recognised foreign universities.

Each year, 125 students in their second or third year complete one or two semesters at a foreign university. These exchanges allow students to discover other cultures, as well as other ways of studying and, in certain cases, to obtain a degree from a partner university (Bachelor’s degree with the University of Abertay Dundee and Mid Sweden University, and Certificates with the Dublin Business School and the University of Westminster).

DEPARTURE REQUIREMENTS

Students attending partner universities are the School’s ambassadors. Only the most motivated, those who have mastered the language of the partner university, and the most deserving will be accepted. The non-validation of the course abroad will de facto mean repeating the university year concerned. The “International Management” specialisation is intended particularly for students wishing to work internationally after their graduation.

Studying abroad is either for a semester or a year. The year or semester abroad is recognised and validated by EDC, subject to the student having satisfied the academic requirements of the partner university.

Within the framework agreements with particular universities, it is possible to obtain a Bachelor’s degree. In this case, it is necessary to complete a year’s study at the university abroad.

Students are helped with their planning and applications by the International Relations Department whose mission is to assist students with their choice of destinations (advice and selection of candidates) and to ensure a point of contact throughout their study abroad.

2 DISCOVERING A MULTICULTURAL ENVIRONMENT

Students are initiated into working in a multicultural environment through two approaches:

Each lecturer, whether general or specialised, possesses international experience.

The recruitment of international lecturer-researchers, the arrival of visiting professors and the presence of young foreigners help students to become familiar with other cultures, and other ways of working and thinking.

3 THE PRIORITY GIVEN TO LANGUAGES

EDC emphasises language teaching, and ensures that English becomes a language of communication fully mastered by students by the end of their studies.

An important number of hours are dedicated to studying languages.

(More than 300 hours for English for the entirety of the course and 250 hours for a second or even third language: Spanish, German, Italian, Arabic, Chinese, Russian…).

In the third year, all courses other than Taxation and Information Technology are given in English.

During their fourth year, all EDC students take the TOEIC.

(Test of English for International Communication).

4 FOREIGN EXPERIENCE TESTIMONIALS

My Chinese internship...

Ève Lacoste, 4th year student.

“After having spent 5 months in Mexico, I wanted to discover China, and through my personal network, I managed to get a seven-month internship in Shanghai with a filial of the luxury home-décor firm, Roch-Bobois. I was the only foreigner in the company, and so I had to learn basic Mandarin in record time in evening classes. At the start, it wasn’t easy, but afterwards, I loved the experience so much – a real human and cultural shock for me – that I decided to devote my dissertation to entrepreneurship in China... and after that to return to set up my own company.”
